New LaVena petition

As you will recall, the original LaVena Johnson petition to the Armed Services Committees of the House and the Senate - asking those bodies to compel the Army to reopen the investigation of LaVena’s death in Iraq - closed on May 23. I’m currently arranging with an organization for delivery of the petition to the legislators on those committees.

For the many people who have recently heard of LaVena’s story and are looking for ways to help, activist Danielle Vyas has launched a new and separate petition effort on the Care2 network. The Justice for LaVena Johnson petition is addressed to both houses of Congress and President Bush. Danielle’s goal is one thousand signatures; after a full day, the count currently stands at 108.

I am very grateful to Danielle for sponsoring this new petition. I’ll add my own name to the list today. This effort belongs to no single person; the more voices that can be raised in support of the Johnson family, the better.

  3. Thanks to all who have signed and forwarded. We have gathered over 525 signatures.

When I created the petition I aimed for a higher target for signatures and it will be open for a year, let’s pray we won’t need it by then.

I am simply doing my part trying to carry the torch.

    Justice and Truth will prevail.

    Thank you all again

  4. To lose a child in any way is a tragedy, but the manner in which the Johnsons lost LaVena is also a national outrage. Although their interview on Democracy Now was painful to watch,  I am so glad that word is getting out. I want the Johnsons to know how deeply saddened I am by their loss, and how much I admire their courage and integrity. We must demand that every person involved in this unspeakable situation be brought to justice. Thanks to Phillip also. Lynn Faulkner in New Mexico
