Withdrawal now or draft later?

Sounds like the war czar has provided the correct frame for viewing our choices in Iraq: withdrawal now, or a draft later. Awfully obliging of him, eh? You begin to wonder if this is the reason why the position of “war adviser” was created - to deliver precisely this part of the narrative. Lt. General Douglas Lute can qualify it as much as he likes -

Today, the current means of the all-volunteer force is serving us exceptionally well.

- but the fact that he troubled to mention the possibility, given the admitted stresses on the present volunteer military, provides evidence that Bush and Co. is busily implementing its own exit strategy. Here then is a glimpse of the price to paid…but not while the current president is behind the sales counter.
