The latest iteration of Waveflux is open for business. Some changes are readily apparent, as the design has been completely altered from when last you visited. The most fundamental alteration concerns the blog’s underlying platform: Waveflux is now powered by WordPress. For those of you who recall how excited I was earlier to upgrade the blog to the latest version of Movable Type…well, change happens. I’ll talk at length about my reasons for leaving a software platform that had powered this blog for nearly all of its existence…but that comes later.
All of the original content has been imported to the new blog; you can find it in the “Waveflux_Older” department via the drop-down menu above. The move has given me the opportunity to cut down (way down) on the number of categories here. We’ll keep that number small and make use of tags instead to help readers find related entries. The rest of the taxonomy here is pretty self-evident.
All comments have been brought over successfully, along (apparently) with commenters’ identities. This is exciting; commenting was always spotty at the MT blog for reasons that defied analysis. We’ll see what happens when people actually try to leave responses here, but I hope that this migration marks an end to the frustration.
As with any shift to new quarters, work remains even after the move-in. (The good thing is that once you’re actually in the house, there’s no crushing deadline to get unpacked.) There are various elements and widgets to be added to the blog and pages to create. I think that Waveflux will be a more interesting place in which to blog, and believe that this will make it a more interesting place to visit.
For everyone wondering where Bettie Page is, fear not. She’ll be here soon.
Note: Naturally, it’s while I write this that the old MT blog chooses to rear up like Zombie Number Five in Shaun of the Dead. Excuse me while I fetch a baseball bat.
Note: The MT resurrection was due to a breathtaking bit of stupidity on my part. My host, LivingDot, saved my bacon. All is well.

Am I first? Am I? Am I?
Forgetting that change was coming, I actually gasped when I saw the windmills instead of whatever I expected to see.
I like windmills anyway. Seeing windmill farms was one of my favorite parts of my semi-recent cross-country trips.
I’m looking forward to seeing what happens here next.
You are first! I find that entirely appropriate.
It feels weird to have reached this stage of ‘doneness’ with the blog after weeks of wrestling with code and overall blog software irritation; it’s like stepping out of a noisy, crowded room and closing the door behind you. Ah, silence.
I was thinking a few minutes ago that the combination of the new layout (or ‘theme,’ as they say in WordPressLand) and new platform have actually made the experience of blogging feel…well, new. How’s that saying go - a change is as good as a rest? Yeah, like that.
I like the new digs! Very nice. :-)
Thanks for the kind words, Liss…and for indicating that the feed situation is working as it should! Planning to add more features as time allows.
This place is GORGEOUS! Very nicely done. No doubt the greatest effort went into invisible features, the kind we only notice when they go arse-up. The noticeable parts are quite, quite lovely.
…the kind we only notice when they go arse-up.
ROTFL
No doubt, indeed!
Thanks, Cait. Still some stuff to do here.
