The current nightstand

This could be the start of one of those amusing-slash-annoying Internet memes: what books sit on your nightstand just now, awaiting your attention? I took a quick pic of my current stash:

The Columbia History of the World
Coming of Age in the Milky Way
Carrie A. Nation
Writing Fiction, Fifth Edition
The Informant
A Short Story Writer’s Companion
The Granta Book of the American Short Story
Naked Economics
Meditations from a Movable Chair
Five Skies
Barbarians at the Gate
The Fellowship of the Ring

I know I should provide links for each of these titles, but I’m short on time. Sorry!

  1. Granta Book of the American Short Story: best bargain EVER! What do those stories cost, anyway? Ten cents each?

Meditations from a Moveable Chair: Dubus is my #1 favorite. Master of the moral dilemma. No one does it better. (And yet I’ve not read this book.)

    I like Ron Carlson, too.

Many of the others seem like they’d, um, keep you up at night. Or put you to sleep.
