Once removed

I’m always struck during periods of enforced blog silence, such as I’ve experienced during this latest migration and redesign, by how markedly detached from everything one feels. It’s as though the inability to comment on events of the day renders those events somehow more remote. Does it also render them less important?

That wouldn’t say much for me if that was the case.

It’s possible to reverse the telescope here, of course. It may be that having a venue for commentary and critique and making fairly frequent use of it heightens one’s sense of connection to the world and so reduces one’s distance from events and the individuals caught up in them.

I think I rather prefer that viewpoint.
