Olympic confessions

One of my main interests in the Summer Games falls in the soft-core porn category. The sight of really buff people moving with speed, strength, and intent does something for me. There, I said it.
I did not expect the big torch-lighting ceremony in Beijing to equal that of Aboriginine superhero Kathy Freeman in Sydney 2000. I was wrong, and amazed.
I really, really wanted the Chinese basketball squad to defeat Team USA. Bummer.
I was totally chuffed to see the American men’s swimming relay team beat out the French contingent by a fingertip. Awesome. Smash that, Frenchie!
Despite myself, I find the Visa commercials with Morgan Freeman’s godly voiceover rather moving.
I really like the Coke ad featuring Yao Ming, LeBron James, and a delightful assortment of cultural icons.
I find overarching political concerns and skepticism over commercial culture largely irrelevant - and a bit of a bore, frankly - while actually watching the competitions. And that’s as it should be.
