Netflix down! Netflix down!

I visited the Netflix site to check on the DVDs I have up for shipping - the two discs that make up Miss Marple: Collection 1, because M loves that show, you see - but the site was down, and has been for a few hours now. Scarcely worth blogging about, except that I was amused to see that someone visited this blog via Google looking for information on the outage, which indicates a certain level of desperation out there.
So: I can’t help you with info, Netflixians. But I can point you to a community which can, sort of. They’re all waiting too.
Jeez. Netflix is like a goddamned public utility, it’s so necessary.
Update, 7:42 pm Central: Wow.
Don’t be surprised if your movie is delayed a bit in shipping.
Also: No speculation in the media - none that I’ve found, anyway - that the company was hacked. As for customers…their chief concern seems to be “Is my movie queue okay?” Interesting.
Update, 8:19 pm Central: The site is back up. Can hardly wait to hear the story behind the interruption.
Our national Netflix outage nightmare is over…for some. This from a commenter at Hacking Netflix (no, not that kind of hacking):
I just got on and they show NOTHING shipped!
Go figure! Just a loss for us customers. Plus a double whammy for me as they failed to completely ship my last disc as the label was ripped off appearently and the disc returned without me getting it!
A lost rental AND a full days delay on all 3 then!!!
Oh, the humanity.
