Matt Blunt impersonates Karl Rove, lamely

Now that scandal-plagued, lame-duck Missouri governor Matt Blunt has abandoned his own reelection campaign, he has plenty of spare time in which to tell state Republicans how to vote on Super Tuesday. Blunt has drawn upon his vast reservoir of political judgment and experience and hauled up a warning against voting for Mike Huckabee - and an endorsement of his special guy, Mitt Romney. Naturally, Blunt’s friendly and Rovian advice is a rather artless attempt to undercut John McCain. From the AP:

Blunt claims Republicans would be wasting votes on Huckabee

Gov. Matt Blunt says conservative Republicans would be throwing their votes away if they back Mike Huckabee in Missouri’s presidential primary.

Blunt is a supporter of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney.

The Missouri governor told reporters Thursday that if conservatives split their votes between Huckabee and Romney, then the more moderate John McCain likely will win Tuesday’s Republican primary.

Although Huckabee won the Iowa caucuses, he has lagged behind McCain and Romney in subsequent primaries. Blunt says Huckabee is out of contention.

He told reporters: “I think everybody really in their heart and mind understands that this is a two-person race, and if you want to have a voice now, you need to cast a vote for one of the two leading candidates.”

Blunt is not the only high-profile Missouri Republican to throw in his or her lot with Romney’s wobbling campaign. As noted here earlier, erstwhile senator Jim Talent has donated his special talents to serve as Romney’s gaybasher general.

Wow. With a crew like this behind him, Romney can’t possibly lose.
