Let the speculation begin

Considering that CIA director Porter Goss was a first-order hack who stalled the 9/11 commission report and politicized the agency, this comes as pleasant news indeed (WaPo link defunct).
Josh Marshall of Talking Points Memo says aloud pretty much what went through my mind (though more politely, no doubt) when the news broke.
I don’t suppose it anything to do with the fact that Goss is neck deep in the Wilkes-Corruption-and-Hookers story that’s been burbling in the background all week. We don’t know definitely why Goss pulled the plug yet. But the CIA Director doesn’t march over to the White House and resign, effective immediately, unless something very big is up.
Marshall has been tracking the Hookergate story since the start, so anyone interested would be wise to check his site often. If this sudden resignation does indeed involve working girls, this compliment of Goss by Bush will become positively turgid with meaning:
Bush said Goss had instilled a “sense of professionalism” in the CIA.
Oh, yeah.
