Last we heard from James Woods, he was playing poker and whining about how tough it is to be a straight white male actor in these diversity-infested times. Of course, you don’t hear the same complaint from Tom Hanks. Or Johnny Depp. Or Viggo Mortensen. Or Hugh Jackman. Or Russell Crowe. Or Harrison Ford. Or…
Anyway: Woods has a chance to put his acting chops where his mouth is with the leading role in Shark, a CBS legal drama. Woods plays an aggressive defense attorney turned prosecutor - now there’s a realistic career move - who leads a team of young lawyers who will no doubt be stunned by his cold, calculating, brilliant manuevers. The “cold” and “calculating” bits I lifted from a commercial from the show, but the entire gestalt seems lifted from Hugh Laurie’s current job description. Can’t you just hear the six-word pitch made to the network: “Just like House, only with lawyers!” Terrific.

Judging from the ads, it seems to be trying to tap into Boston Legal’s shtick, too…outrageous lawyering.
My original thought was that this show will last four weeks at most…but I’m lousy at judging the popularity of TV shows. I was dead certain that Desperate Housewives and Wife Swap would flop for ABC and told anyone who would listen.
Uh, I was wrong, a little.
