Garden Cat goes to the vet

Leon off to the vet

M and I took our stray kitty friend Leon to the Humane Society this morning for the requisite neutering and shots. Leon is not a fan of the cat carrier. On the other hand, he becomes quiet and reflective once the car gets under way; something about the vibration of the engine and tires seems to calm him.

M told the little guy that “just because you’re getting ‘fixed’ doesn’t mean you’re broken.” We hope he understood.

Once out of the carrier in the examination room, Leon was just as docile and non-aggressive as he always is, which made things easy. Then off he went for the procedure. We’re also having him tested for FIV and FeLV; it seems the responsible thing to do especially as we’re still anxious to find a home for him. We’ll pick him up this evening after work.

After that: Leon comes inside (his dream), if only for a day or so. We want to keep him in the house while he recuperates a bit from the operation. This will doubtless displease the five feline denizens of the house, but there’s no way around it.

So to any of you on the fence about whether to adopt the garden cat: he’s cute, he’s affectionate, and he’s fixed. Okay?

Addendum: Leon wants you to know that he emerged from his day at the Humane Society a little wobbly and somewhat tender in the nether regions, but otherwise fine. Negative for FIV and FeLV.

Going to rest up for a day or so.
