Friday Force-Quit: Drinking, painting, weeding, and childcare

This would be the natural complement to the Monday Reboot, of course. I seldom post over the weekend, so I thought a formal closure to the week was only proper.
- First, a much-deserved drink at the old tavern. I get there seldom enough; it’s a far cry from the old days, when I practically lived at the pub. Did I mention that I used to get my mail there? Yeah, just like something out of Cheers. I’m not boasting. Just making conversation.
- Tomorrow, we’ll do some painting. Priming, actually. M and I had our old front porch ripped out (most of it, anyway) and replaced with new decking, steps, and balustrade. It looks great, but will doubtless look better when it’s actually painted. We primed it Tuesday evening, rushing to keep ahead of expected rain. The deck needs a second coat of primer, so I’ll do that while M goes paint shopping. Sage green, I think. M’s in charge of color; I just paint.
- The lawn badly needs attention. Mowing the annoyingly inclined front yard, then the larger but blessedly flat rear lawn. And then to those pesky and aforementioned wild onions.
- The ten-year-old son of a friend is coming over for a playdate. This is the same boy who accused his mom of being part of the “Alien Nation” because she is blonde with blue eyes. He’s a hoot. The playdate pretty much consists of the kid playing some kind of computer or console game while I offer up unheeded advice from the sidelines. It’s all I can do sometimes not to wrest the controls from his tiny hands…but, uh, it’s not about me, I guess.
I may sneak in a post or two over the weekend…but if not, try to enjoy yourselves in some other fashion.
