Thus endeth the debate over U.S. troops in Iraq, as Prime Minister al-Maliki has cleared them for departure:
Iraq’s leader says U.S. can leave any time it likes
Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki shrugged off U.S. doubts of his government’s military and political progress Saturday, saying Iraqi forces are capable and American troops can leave “anytime they want.”
I can hear the choppers warming up even now.

I can hear the choppers warming up too. My son and his chopper are scheduled to head there in February.
I am bummed.
I’m sorry to hear it.
I’ll keep both of you in my thoughts, Bitty.
Any word on where he’ll be deployed?
He knows; I forget. It hardly matters because he’ll be on the move. His chopper’s job (he’s the guy in the back of the bird who does everything the pilots don’t) is to transport wounded to medical care. There’s a term for it that all the military types know (including my military-wife daughter), but I don’t remember.
This is what he did when he was there before, before the “mission” was “accomplished.”
I imagine he sees some pretty sights.
Thanks for the good thoughts. However, I shall remain in denial through January.
